About Vita-Vi Visici Vita-Vi is a dairy cow farm from a small town Visici, near Capljina in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total of 36 employees. The farm consists of a 1000 livestock units and the farm's primary activity is cattle breeding, production of milk, meat, cheese products and cow fodder production. Vita-Vi has started farming back in 2011, in order to ensure sufficient quantities of quality fodder for their cows that are growing in number every year. They farm around 370 ha of land and the entirety of their production goes into feeding the cows. The farm grows a wide range of crops including different clover and grass mixtures and grains (triticale, barley, wheat, corn). As providing sufficient and quality fodder for their animals is extremely important to Vita-Vi farm, we are pleased and proud to say they have chosen us to help them achieve their goals. "Combining modern technology with tradition is the foundation of every top quality product. A daily mission of everyone at Vita-Vi farm is to preserve and bring the old taste and smells to your table with the help of the most modern technological processes.“ We spoke with Stipe Sakic to learn more about how Agrivi has helped them improve their farm processes. Stipe is an experienced farm manager that has been with Vita-Vi for the last year and a half, and his job position includes machinery and employee management, warehouse organization and commodities supply. With all the changes and technology advancements, he is well aware of the importance to follow agricultural trends and production best practices in order to achieve sustainable and long-term crop production.   Challenge Vita-Vi is one of those farms that has been experiencing a fast growth throughout the years, so they quickly realized they need to stay on top of new technologies in order to stay profitable and competitive on the market. To be able to support the growth, produce and sell the best meat and milk products, their main priority from the start has been to ensure that the production of quality fodder equals the demands of their animals. Due to an extensive amount of activities being performed on the farm, there was a problem with having data about the condition of their crops easily recorded and transparent. Vita-Vi conducted their data input manually, in numerous Excel sheets and different paper documents. This was a time-consuming process and their data wasn't accessible in a quick and simple manner. Therefore, Stipe wanted to find a suitable solution that would streamline their production and provide a clearer insight into production costs, tasks, and other operations across the farm, basically just keep things organized. He stumbled upon Agrivi while searching for a farm management system online. “I contacted Agrivi's Support team and within minutes I had a response followed by a full demonstration of the entire system via Skype. I then signed up for a free trial and after a few days realized that this is something that could benefit our farm greatly.“   Solution With the help of Agrivi system, Vita-Vi was able to streamline their farm processes and optimize their production. They were looking for a solution that would make their production process more simplified and organized, offer easy communication between team members, and allow to have every farm detail in one place. Similar to other farms, their goal was to improve crop quantity and quality due to the fact that everything they produce on the fields eventually ends up as cow feed, ultimately affecting the quality of milk and meat products. Agrivi has provided Vita-Vi a suitable solution that enables easy access to their data and complete crop management from seed to harvest. With just one click they can access data about their fields, see which was the most profitable crop or even keep track of employee work hours. “Agrivi provides a complete production overview and based on that we can calculate are we profitable or not. I have to point out one thing that is especially useful for our farm—the possibility to set alarms for machinery whose registration is due or is malfunctioning. This helps us manage machinery usage more efficiently and allows us to stay up-to-date with all equipment documentation.“   Results Same as with all our users, our goal with Vita-Vi farm has always been to help them overcome their crop management challenges and achieve their production goals. By using data analytics, they were able to decrease waste and increase yield, ultimately creating a more smart, efficient, and profitable farm. As explained by their farm manager Stipe, the main ways in which Agrivi has helped Vita-Vi’s farming processes include: Saving time with administration tasks Simplifying and streamlining the whole crop production process Easier tracking of all production costs and farm expenses (including fuel and pesticides consumption)   “I can no longer imagine farming without the help of a digital solution like Agrivi. I believe every serious farm business needs to follow new trends in agriculture and strive towards self-improvement in order to stay competitive on the market. Traditional methods of data collection, including pen, paper, and spreadsheets, can be time-consuming and tiresome, so if you want to be efficient and profitable, having a system like this is mandatory.“

RuralPlan is an Ag consultant company in the state of Mato Grosso in Brazil, which is operated by young and experienced agronomists Daiana Coimbra and her husband. As Ag consultants, they are working with 10 farmers who are growing 4.300 hectares of soybean as the first crop. The second crop within the year is corn, which is cultivated on 30% of that land, while the other 70% is planted with grass to feed the livestock. RuralPlan is dedicated to bringing knowledge to other farmers so they can improve their own businesses, as well as provide them support in the areas of technical knowledge and financial management. RuralPlan is a company that works side by side with farmers. Because of this, the company understands how new technologies are the only way farmers can face challenges and stay in the business today and in the future. With the right tech tools, it is possible to work smart. Technology can help farmers grow more while using less. Data can serve as money-saving advice and the effect could be crucial for farmers’ success. We have plenty of examples, including the fact that farmers can save money and preserve the water quality when they use precision agriculture that indicates to them the exact quantity of fertilizer that needs to be spread. Technology such as pest alarms can help farmers scout the pests, allowing for the spraying of pesticides only when necessary. - RuralPlan At RuralPlan they are very excited about software that allows farmers to easily use the huge amount of data that is generated and assist in proper analysis. The goal of technology in agriculture is to increase crop yields. Because collecting, recording and analyzing all of the data from their clients was taking so much time, investing in farm management software was just a matter of time for RuralPlan. Pen and paper, as well as spreadsheets, were too hard to manage, so Agrivi was determined to be an indispensable tool for farmers and their businesses. We live in a data-driven world. It is also a must in agriculture and the importance of data is well understood by RuralPlan. Our experience proves that the amount of information that one single farm in one single season generates is too much and can take the farmer, manager, and agronomist away from the field where they really need to be. Using a tool that helps farmers record and analyze all of their data more easily and quickly allows for more time for day to day field activities, as well as to focus on the big decisions that they face, such as the best times to sell the production and spray for pests and diseases. – RuralPlan Being affordable, user-friendly, complete, and accessible from anywhere were the key requirements of a farm management software that were required by the RuralPlan company and its clients. They needed it to be understandable and easy to use for not only the experienced Ag consultant but also for farmers who have different tech education and backgrounds. Being able to use the Agrivi software free trial and explore all of the features and availability was beneficial. Agrivi met our expectations like other systems did. However, as with other systems, Agrivi couldn't meet 100% of our particularities. The system needed some adjustments to satisfy our needs. The Agrivi team did that for us and more, they mastered it. – RuralPlan The Agrivi team was there to help and assist with any doubts or questions. RuralPlan, as an Ag consultant company, had extra needs, but the team met them all and provided us with the security that all future needs would be adjusted and accommodated. We believe that Agrivi has the best customer support in the world. They are friendly and efficient and really take care of their customers’ needs and try hard to tend to them. - RuralPlan Agrivi is available in web and mobile version. At the moment RuralPlan is using the web version. Farmers who are clients of RuralPlan send their information to the company’s office – either in person, via WhatsApp, by phone, or via e-mail. Then, in the same manner, information is sent back to the clients. Because this is their first season using Agrivi, RuralPlan is trying various options to determine which is best for them. RuralPlan is an efficient Ag consultant company which is constantly improving their business and seeking new ways to help farmers. That is why they started investing in farm management software and found Agrivi.

„I found Agrivi while searching online for a farm management program. I sent a message acquiring information about the software and within minutes I had a response followed by a Skype demo. I tested the software over the next few days and decided to buy a subscription.“ ~ Brett Rovey Brett Rovey is a 3rd generation farmer on Rovey dairy, a family farm based in Arizona. The farm locations are spread out between Palo Verde, Buckeye and Glendale. The Glendale location is about 3 miles from the stadium where Arizona Cardinals play. The dairy farm was started by Brett's grandfather in 1943 and was later purchased by Brett's father Paul in 1978 who started steadily growing the business from 200 cows up to 2000 cows they have today. Rovey dairy has started farming their ground in 2012, in order to ensure sufficient quantities of quality feed for their cows. They farm around 2000 acres on fields spread out across 50 miles and the entirety of their production goes into feeding the cows. The farms grow a wide range of row crops such as alfalfa, corn silage, sorghum silage, barley, sugar beets, bermuda grass and rye. Due to an extensive amount of activities being performed on the farms at any given time, there was an issue with keeping things organized, especially due to the widespread fields which are gathered across several locations. Brett has spent time searching for a suitable solution that would streamline the production and get a much clearer insight into production costs, tasks, and other operations across the farms. “Before switching to Agrivi we used numerous amounts of excel documents and paper time sheets. This was a time consuming process and we still lacked information we needed. Many of the task were not recorded timely and the output was missing valuable information.” ~ Brett Rovey Having spreadsheets and written notes at multiple locations makes it impossible to share the data in an efficient way, not to mention having no real time insight into inventory, which is the key prerequisite for efficient usage of inputs across multiple farm locations. Furthermore, having a large number of fields puts an emphasis on being on top of costs per field and crop, in order to better plan the usage of inputs for the seasons to come. „We needed a program that was always available, easy to use and had the capabilities to track all cost applied to our farming operation. Some of the most important activities we track are water usage, machinery cost and fertilizer.“ ~ Brett Rovey When it comes to their business, Rovey dairy puts a heavy focus on cost effectiveness, following up with an ever growing passion for improving their farm management practices. Their goal is to improve the produce quantity and quality due to the fact that everything they produce on the fields eventually ends up as cow feed, affecting the quality of milk they distribute all over the US.

Nuić Winery is a professional wine grape growing and winemaking company from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company started as a hobby business in 2004 and has rapidly expanded in just a couple of years. The vineyards are currently covering 35 hectares of fields and a number of international as well as indigenous varieties are being grown for winemaking. Majority of the production is exported to several European countries, however, some of the wines make it as far as Japan and New Zealand. Nuić Winery is excited about their future, as the demand for their product is growing at an optimistic pace. „With all the information available today, and production methods for producing wines of highest quality being easily accessible, wine consumption is steadily increasing day by day.“ ~ Nuić Winery Nuić winery relies heavily on the efficiency of production processes and invests a lot of time and effort in improving their management practices. This is becoming increasingly important as the company is growing. “We believe that the larger the production is, the more important production tracking becomes. Tracking all of the work in a vineyard, as well as expenses and income per variety gives us real-time data which helps us immensely to see where we are, and what we might do to achieve a better production result.” ~ Nuić Winery Besides managing the work as efficiently as possible, keeping track of the weather, as well as diseases caused by the weather is extremely important. Since wine grape is so sensitive to disease it is important to plan efficiently, work efficiently, but also keep track of the weather, pests and diseases which can completely destroy the entire yield. Any mechanism that can work towards improving the business efficiency from the management side, but also provide support in terms of alarming in case of pest occurrence or adverse weather conditions will work towards improving the overall profitability and productivity of the company. As with any business, winemaking needs to be cost effective. Due to that necessity, it's important to have a clear insight into production costs, easy access to that data and an easy way of collecting and storing it. „Production expansion as well as widening our wine portfolio has sparked a necessity for data tracking and detailed statistical analysis. We have tried several product before but none have really lived up to our expectations. Agrivi is a completely different story. We are very happy to be able to get all of the necessary reports quickly and efficiently.“ ~ Nuić Winery Winemaking business is something that is constantly evolving. Solutions are being offered hand over fist not just in the segment of farm management software, but also in terms of production practices, hardware, automated pest control, vinification improvements, etc. Nuić winery wants to be on the edge of those advancements, and is investing in quality solutions in every segment of their business that will push them forward. This relates not only to the profitability of the company but more importantly, the quality of their product and satisfaction of their customers.

Taufan Suharsono is the successor of CV Restu Sejati, a family 'Tobbaco & Clove' business founded by his grandfather in 1959. The company is present in more than 10 regions across Indonesia. In 2014, Taufan's company has initiated its 'Sustainable Sourcing' project in order to establish long term relationship with the farmers by giving financial and technical support in order to increase their productivity, efficiency, product quality and living standard through sustainable farming methods. Taufan's company currently employs 39 permanent employees and more than 300 seasonal workers across 7 buying stations in Indonesia. Managing production for some of the largest buying companies in the world can be a very challenging task. Especially if there is a need for complete traceability that will ensure buyer's trust in the origin, quality and production practices of each farmer the produce is bought from. Having a tool that can help with that in an efficient way is something that should be a primary focus if long term sustainability is to be ensured. Large agricultural corporations are faced with a great challenge of ensuring sufficient quantity in order to keep their production going. That's why they work with farmers, often smallholders too, in order to make sure their ever growing demand is met. The challenge is in securing a large enough quantity which is traceable and meets the necessary quality standards. „Trust me, [Company we are selling to] has the strictest standard when it comes to the quality and integrity assurance in their supply chain. It is important to have a farm management system which can bring information straight from the field. It will be more accurate, easier, flexible and efficient for us. In my case, because our field techs have the ability to input the data from the field, they don't have to go to the main office to input the data, where the field locations are scattered in several regions which are far from the office, that means our field tech will have more time monitoring and supporting the farmers in the field.“ ~ Taufan Suharsono Long term farming sustainability comes from using the latest and best production practices for each crop. For farmers, having access to knowledge is vital in this case, and easy access to that knowledge is always a plus. Good production practices also include the need for keeping track of the production costs. This includes managing farming inputs, fertilizers, pesticides, labour, machinery and other crop related costs. Making sure all these boxes are ticked will no doubt ensure a competitive edge through increased quality, more cost-effective production and complete traceability. Introducing traceability from the field is only possible through implementation of latest farm management technologies. What better way is there than to adopt a cloud based solution that is complete, powerful, yet easy to use and multilingual. Additionally, one of the most important aspects of adopting new technology in an ever growing business is scalability, so solutions which are long term investments need to be able to scale up significantly in order to support a company in all stages of its growth. When adopting new technology, there's always challenges, however, successfully adopting farm management software works towards sealing the traceability black hole which is currently present within the food sourcing industry, where there is no actual, easily accessible data which satisfies necessary traceability standards. “With the ability to gather and store substantial information from every phase of the production, we can easily trace who is the grower, where & when was the crop planted, what crop input & active substances were used, when it was harvested, how much cash did the grower earn, what practices were used to produce the products.” ~ Taufan Suharsono Industry leaders like Taufan are the bringers of change. Their responsibility is also two-fold, towards their buyer but also towards the farmer. Taufan's role is to provide value for all sides, ultimately improving the livelihood of the farmers as well.

Terra Optima is a professional apple growing company that cultivates several varieties of apples on 24 hectares of land. The farm has its own irrigation system and the entire surface is covered with nets, protecting the apples from hail storms. The highest percentage of the surface is covered with Golden Delicious, Fuji, Superchief and Granny Smith apples. Terra Optima invests a lot of effort in tracking everything from pruning, irrigation, fertigation, spraying, and other activities during the entire growing season. This stresses the importance of data import simplicity and easier data analysis. Terra Optima has previously relied on solutions not so greatly tailored towards agriculture, wasting a lot of time structuring data in spreadsheets and creating customized analytics and charts difficult to understand and share. „We used a classic Microsoft Office data management approach in the beginning, until we found out about Agrivi and quickly transferred to your Farm Management System. Agrivi offers a very simple and easy way of tracking work, finances, workforce and weather alarms connected to pest and disease occurrence.“ ~ TerraOptima Terra Optima needed a solution which can be used not only to record and store data, but also to make analyzing that data quicker and easier. What good are all the spreadsheets and notes when at the end of the day you still have to mine through them to make any sense of them, let alone create reports that make sense to your supervisors? Agrivi helped Terra Optima record relevant operations in a seamless fashion, while greatly reducing the need of sitting in front of the computer and wasting time analyzing data while there's work to be done at the farm. “Agrivi gives us the ability of quickly and easily creating a weekly, monthly or yearly report about work on our plantation, finances, income projections, as well as the ability to quickly exchange production reports with our company’s managing directors...” ~ TerraOptima Terra Optima is currently working on expanding their farm with additional 10 hectares of land. Using Agrivi has helped streamline their operations and gave structure to their business from the management standpoint. A company that is growing rapidly needs partners who can provide cost effective, value adding solutions that will help them overcome business challenges and support their growth. „All in all, Agrivi saves time and it’s very easy to use in modern apple production such as ours.“ ~ TerraOptima
