Agricultural Sprayers Manage Critical Aspects of Crop Production

By Ines Hajdu | Agronomy, Blog Comments are Closed | 8 August, 2017 | 0

With crop production constantly exposed to dynamic and unpredictable challenges, pest protection and crop nutrition represent very delicate aspects of farm management. Therefore, farmers are often under pressure to find a suitable and cost-effective way of managing both of these critical aspects.

    Pest Protection and Crop Nutrient

Luckily, the development of farm technology has resulted in a broad range of agricultural sprayers that can be used for both foliar fertilization (application of nutrients directly onto the plant’s leaves) and pest protection.

Agricultural sprayers are a special type of farm equipment created and used for application of liquid fertilizers and pesticides during the crop growth cycle. These remarkable farming tools are available in various sizes and types, from hand-held and manual sprayers to large trailed or mounted sprayers followed by advanced atomizers. Verstile, large-scale farmers and farm cooperations practice aerial spraying.

In other words, each farmer has the opportunity to find a suitable spraying solution that will fit the specific needs of his farm.

    Range of Agricultural Sprayers

    The Diversity of Agricultural Sprayers

Of the different types of agricultural sprayers, there are three common classifications, which include:

    • Manual sprayers
    • Machine sprayers
    • Aerial sprayers

Each of the aforementioned sprayer types has some advantages and disadvantages. For example, the manual sprayer is a simple piece of farming equipment, affordable and available for every farmer. However, these are more appropriate for smaller surfaces. Otherwise, the application would be labor-intensive and too slow.

    Manual Sprayer

On the other hand, mechanized sprayers, trailed or mounted on a tractor, are more productive and less labor intensive. Still, there are many small-holder farmers that are often limited in their resources. For this reason, they find mechanized sprayers too high investment.

    Mechanized Sprayers

Additionally, large-scale farmers and farming cooperations prefer aerial sprayers. These sprayers easily manage spraying of large farm surfaces with minimal effort. Unfortunately, though, aerial sprayers are rarely an affordable solution.

The Choice of Sprayer is Actually Very Simple

In order to manage pest protection and crop nutrition, a farmer should choose the most appropriate type of sprayer depending on the specific needs of the farm. Additionally, finances always play a factor in the choice of suitable spraying equipment.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that sprayers are just pieces of farming equipment that lead to accomplishing the desirable result. In order to improve the critical stage of crop production, a farmer must apply a whole set of good farm management practices. These involve: crop rotation, planting of resistant cultivars, fertilizing according to the results of the soil analysis, and practicing regular field and crop monitoring.

So, regardless of the type of sprayer you decide to use, make sure that it fits the needs of your farm.  And keep in mind the other important aspects of your farm management as well.
