From ancient times, agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing and harvesting crops and raising of animals for food and other human needs. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of human civilization, whereby farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that nurtured the development of civilization.Since agriculture had a great role in making our society, all people around the world, especially farmers, celebrate its day. This is a day for all to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture across the world. Almost every country has its own National Agriculture Day. It’s all about understanding how food and fibers are produced and appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing those products to be safe, abundant and affordable. The first idea for National Agriculture Day was founded in 1973 by the American Council of Agriculture, an organization of food and fiber communities dedicated to increasing public awareness of agriculture’s vital role in our society.Since its development, agriculture has been driven and defined by greatly different climates, cultures, technologies and, since recently, by an increasingly growing world population. It’s expected by 2050, the world’s population will exceed 9 billion people. Therefore, farmers need to start to produce more food with the same available resources today. They need to produce the same amount of food over the next four decades that they have produced over the past 8,000 years!Advancements in farm technology are an important contributor to a more sustainable farming system that promotes continuous improvement and less resource use. Aiming to provide food to all people, farmers are constantly looking for better and user-friendly solutions that will increase their farm production. Farmers need access to better tools and farm practices that will enable them to produce more with less. Today’s modern farming practices, including plant breeding, agrochemicals such as pesticides and fertilizers and technological development systems, help sharply increase crop yields. Farmers are able to grow drought, water and disease-resistant crops, use high-tech machinery with sensors for soil mapping, use drones and software for tracking and managing their whole farm production, such as AGRIVI farm management software.
